The other day Mom casually asked if I wanted to take some fancier photos than what we did to document my dermal neurofibromas (pre-Trametinib). It might be nice to do this since I haven’t done a photo session with her in a helluva long time.
With the conversation, it suddenly occurred to me that my California license expires this August. I have been putting off transferring it for many reasons, but mainly because I wasn’t ready to let this one last bit of CA go. Now, with a guaranteed rash on the horizon, a fire was lit under me. I NEED a new license before it comes. With COVID protocol, an appointment is mandatory. Checking the weather, I scheduled an appointment for the least snowy day.

After having to turn around partway into my trip because I realized I forgot my license at home, I was ready to make the exchange. Well, it good DMV fashion; I got worked over. I stood with my back to the blue curtain, took my mask off, and with no notice, my photo was taken. I didn’t even feel like fighting it and asking for a redo. I took my seat and waited the hour + while my paperwork was processed -- $120 later, I was on my way home ... $40 to transfer and $80 for a new license. Thank you, Connecticut.
My bright spot - driving by The John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant in Danbury on my way to spending another $120 to fax 49 pages of documentation to my insurance company on why they need to cover my Mekinist. (That certainly is a story for another post.)
